Easter is Here | Game of Thrones Easter Eggs

I am a HUGE Game of Thrones fan! Since the second episode of the final season fell on Easter, I just had to make dragon Easter eggs! It was super easy, a little time consuming, and looked really cool when they were all done! Here is what you will need to make Game of Thrones eggs: Eggs, baking soda, vinegar, food coloring, rubber gloves to keep the dye off your fingers (I forgot this step!) and ziplock sandwich bags (1 for each egg).

I always boil my eggs using the same method. I bring water to a boil, stir in 1 teaspoon of baking soda, then gently lower in each egg using a slotted spoon. Boil for 10 minutes, then place the pan in the sink. I run cold water into the pan for a few minutes and let the eggs cool down. Normally, you then peel the eggs right away and they peel so easily!

But for this, we don’t want to peel them yet. Take each egg and gently tap it on a hard surface, creating tiny cracks. I found that once I had a few bigger cracks, I could gently press my finger into different parts of the egg to make more cracks along the surface. Make sure to do this softly because you don’t want big parts to crack or the shell to completely break.

After each egg is sufficiently cracked, place each egg into a sandwich bag. Don’t forget to put your rubber gloves on! Drop in 7 or 8 drops of food coloring onto each egg, seal the bag, and softly massage the color around the egg so that the color is spread around evenly. Let the eggs sit for 30 minutes for the color to soak in. Rinse each egg to get the dye out, then crack off the shells to reveal your beautiful marbled Game of Thrones style eggs! If you want to, you can splash on a little bit of vinegar on each egg. This will help the color stay a little better but isn’t necessary.

My boys loved helping to make these. They thought it was SO cool! Here’s another fun way to dye Easter Eggs using Cool Whip!

Cool Whip Easter Eggs | Kid Friendly Easter Egg Dyeing

I was scrolling Pinterest the other day looking for something fun to do with my two boys this Easter and came across a beautiful and different way to dye Easter Eggs with Cool Whip. Seemed easy enough so I figured we could give it a try. What could go wrong with some Cool Whip and neon food colors? Apparently, nothing!

All you need is two containers of Cool Whip, vinegar, neon food coloring, rubber gloves, a toothpick, and a sheet pan. We used rubber gloves so the dye didn’t stain our fingers. Boil the eggs, let them cool, then soak in vinegar for about 15 minutes. Spread the Cool Whip out along the sheet pan and drop in food coloring around the pan around an inch apart. Don’t be afraid of using too much color like I was! Because the more color you use, the more vibrant and colorful your eggs will be. When you are done spreading around colors, grab your toothpick and run it up and down the pan to swirl the colors around.

Dry the eggs, put on your gloves, and roll each egg through the colors until it is covered. Set each egg on a paper towel and allow to dry for 30 minutes. Then rinse off with water and voila! Beautiful and edible Easter eggs!

This was a super easy Easter activity that my boys loved doing with me. My only regret is that I didn’t think to grab my “real” camera until halfway through the process. I love the pretty pastel watercolor look on the finished eggs and will definitely be doing this every year!
