I loved seeing this beautiful Mama again! The last time I saw her was for a maternity session with her first baby and her family has grown so much since then!
I drove up to Fabyan Forest Preserve in Batavia, Illinois. Fabyan is hands down one of my favorite spaces to shoot in. First of all, it’s beautiful and on the Fox River. Second of all, there are tons of really cool and unique areas to shoot in.
Plus there is plenty of space for kiddos to run around in to burn off some energy 😉
This is an awesome place for Fall family photos in Batavia! If you’re in that area and need some new photos, let me know. I love coming up that way! Click here to see another session at Fabyan.
It’s not often I learn a little life lesson from a photoshoot but I did yesterday and I wanted to share it with you.
The very first squeeze of paint from Alice to her Mom went directly into Mom’s mouth. Now, some parents would immediately get upset, scold their child, get angry with them. Paint fights are messy. Not every parent would do this with their children. Nicole did. She didn’t worry about the mess. As a photographer and a Mom, I was SO happy to see Nicole laugh it off.
This session could have easily turned sour right away. I’ve seen it before. If a child is scolded or feels negative energy from you before or during a session, it affects them. I’ve seen this happen too many times and it always makes me sad.
Because Nicole laughed it off and had carefree fun energy, Alice literally giggled during the entire session. I can still hear her giggles. She painted Mom’s face, hair, clothes. She had a BLAST and they made fun awesome memories together.
Nicole, you’re doing it right!

I learned about two things the day I met the Pritchett family. One is that I LOVED shooting inside a greenhouse! So much pretty light, everywhere! It was so warm and beautiful inside which was a nice break from the snowy weather outside. Bird Haven Greenhouse was even decorated for the holidays. We took advantage of the lights on the trees and festive red decor. It is a beautiful place to have photos taken or even have a wedding! Because there are multiple rooms or areas within Bird Haven Greenhouse, you can get a variety of backdrops in your photos including cactus!
The other thing I learned is how much of a fighter their youngest son, Mason, is. He has a rare blood disorder called Severe Congenital Neutropenia. This means he receives chemo and is waiting for a bone marrow transplant. Looking at Mason, you would never know any of that. His smile immediately makes you smile. He is so sweet, pure, and so obviously full of love that just radiates off of him.
Overall, I am so thankful to have crossed paths with this incredibly strong and kind family. If you would like to follow Mason’s journey and cheer his cute little self on, click here to go to their Facebook page.
I was super excited when Michelle asked if I could squeeze in a quick family session with her and her girls. The Fall colors were still sooo pretty but they were starting to fade. The leaves were just starting to fall from the trees. It was the most perfect timing because within a few days, the wind and weather took almost all of this beautiful color.
Also, how cute are these girls?! They were so excited to throw leaves in the air and hang out with their Mom on this beautiful day. Leaf throwing is my favorite! I also loved the colors in their outfits, definitely on par with Fall colors.

Fall is absolutely my FAVORITE time of year! The leaves are changing color and crunch when you step on them, the air is cooler and crisp, and there’s nothing better than roasting s’mores over bonfires with friends. Fall is also a really beautiful time of year for family photos 🙂 This is my most popular event of the year so I have opened up 3 dates for them! Here are the details…
